why the discrepancies in forecasts

why are there so many discrepancies between forecasts? xc and big salty have one forecast for this sunday whilst the met office are giving a wildly different one
who is right?
who do i believe?
surely they get their information from roughly the same place?
any Meteo heads out there with vaguely believable knowledge?
want to believe the met office as they are saying what i want to hear but that attitude has come a cropper a few ties in the past

Met office best forecast from 3-5 days away. Wind guru/ xc (have same forecast ) are best in short run. like 1 or 2 days from when you plan on going. Big salty usually underestimate wind forecast :D ths my view .
