If you posted that on an SUP forum im pretty sure there would be some form of explosion due to the shear amount of "uproar"....... Very true tho.. Infact im going to copy and post it for some kind of dark personal self forfilment..

I get that the point of the OP was that this is a windsurf news feed, but when it comes down to it most of us are involved in multiple water sports in different combinations, and so there will always be interest, and so they should be allowed to post bits about it. You don't have to read/watch/listen.

Sounds like a couple of classic cases of the arrogance some people fall into after becoming averagely good at surfing. Well done boys - you've learnt to stand up and wiggle your asses a bit. Definitely time to start hating all other forms of watersports and beginners.
Grrrr. I really hate those little 3 year old kids playing in the shallows with gay water wings - get the fuck out the way, I'm walking down that way into the water to meet my destiny in chest high onshore mush.

Where as you would go out on a SUP stand up in the shallows and attempt to paddle over the first chest high wave ... fall off and have 12kgs and 150L of board get smashed into the same child's face ??

Plus another thing if SUP is so good for fitness why are all the people who I see doing it fat? When you see a lot of fat people doing something it generally tells you that it is the easy option!

my take on it is this . . . . .
SUP = not cool. anyone who thinks it is need to have themselves video'd doing it (unless your Robby / Kai etc). standing up wobbling around with your ass sticking out cannot be construed as cool. but hey, personally i've got other things to worry about. i'm a dad, cool just isn't a priority but having a laugh with my mates is
i was totally in the SUP is lame camp but bought one just to mess about with the kids on and slowly realised the potential. hands up, i'm a crap surfer but suddenly the SUP has opened up waves which i would fail to catch on my surf board (read - all)
a recent windsurf trip was saved by the SUP. no wind but plenty of juicy waves saw session after session which would have deteriorated into a frenzy of rinsings had the trusty paddleboard not been there
so fair enough - if you are a surfer and a competent one at that, forget it, stick to sitting in the line up glaring at everyone not saying a word and getting more and more pissed off by all the other surfers wanking around for their 3 second fix
the rest of us are having a ball
it'll never take precedence over windsurfing (however many fins your SUP has) but lame? surfers need to take themselves a little less seriously and try and remember why they do it . . . . why we all do it -FUN

I sup and will happily agree with that. If you don't live somewhere that gets regular surf its very difficult to maintain a decent surfing level. Beleive me I have tried. However you can with a SUP 'cos you don't lose your timing if you haven't been out for months.

Not for me. I use my SUP to get away from traditional surfers as I hate surfing in a crowd. Its one of the things that attracted me to SUP in the first place.

The other bonuses are that 1-2' slow waves are a lot more fun on a SUP. For me this means I can get several fun sessions a year within an hour of where I live rather than having to drive for 4 hours for 3'+.

Its also a lot, lot warmer than surfing.

I don't really give a monkeys whether surfers "respect" me or not. I'm just doing it for personal enjoyment not to be accepted into some kind of street gang. And anyway, I'm sure you'd prefer me to be way off down the beach on my SUP rather than being yet another struggling intermediate surfer jossling for position in the lineup and generally getting in the way...

Yeah thats right Duncan, blow my argument right out of the water by referring to a 15 year old kid who's a professional Windsurfer, SUPPER, surfers etc who clearly doesn't have time to even eat... brilliant ... the point is you are being feed shit by the marketing circus, which he is part of so that you part with £800 and you fell for it .. enough said

doesn't a decent longboard come in at around the same price?
so . . . . similar money for something you can use everytime the wind isnt there

Get a SUPer 8'10" Starboard. Pop a 6.1 Fusion on, and sail the SUPer straight through the lineup. Footstraps included. Believe me every Kook etc. will be getting the F*&^ out of the road. Thats the way we Aussies piss off the Euro's coming over here trying to ride our waves. Sounds like you got one beach. Don't know how you do it.
