I am new to wave sailing and used my regular mast base which is a Chinook side clip with two screws. After jumping a wave the force of the landing popped the side clip open and left me holding the rig while my board separated from the mast base. Needless to say it was impossible to reattach the mast to the base in the surf.

What kind of mast base do you wave sailers use to ensure a solid grip even in nasty weather?
