Where would you go if you had August off?
9 April '11 | 8:39am
Hi

My brother and I have just got back from El Tur and Moonbeach in Egypt (which was wicked). We might both take 5 weeks off work over August, and wanted to know what you guys thought would be good destinations around the world to go during this time? We'd like to do a bit of travelling and maybe move around a bit within a country, perhaps even cycle between windsurf centres.

Thoughts at the moment are brazil or madagascar as they seem to have great wind during August, but slightly worried that neither of us speak portugese / french...

Other ideas are indonesia / philliphines - anyone have experience of windsurfing here?
Any ideas appreciated!

Cheers
Harry

How about Tarifa - drive down there with a load of kit and a van - there's loads of spots within an hours drive and some wicked biking in the hills just inland....

Spanish is pretty easy too.

Plus if you come back a little later you drive via the south of france and score some wicked tramontana action ?

Cheers

Thanks Roo - nice idea! As we'll have a month or so off (which is rare due to work) we were thinking of taking the opportunity to go further afield this time hence the ideas of south america / africa / south east asia. But will check those spots out thanks.

For Wind reliability Morocco is hard to beat in August- spent a couple of summers there and plenty of wind, although later in year is better for waves, but depends what your after. Biking out there would probably be hot and dry!

I have windsurfed in the Philippines on the island of Boracay- its quite a popular spot with a big lagoon and then waves offshore on the reef, so good options, and i did some great biking just off the island too.

Like you say with cash and the time your prob right to head further afield and stick to Europe for shorter trips.

Lucky- enjoy.

Windsurfing in the Philippines is great...but don't go there in August as it won't be windy, there season is Nov-April.

brazil is pretty good around then, very windy but not much swell. Even better if you can do September though.

Cheers guys your ideas are appreciated - keep the suggestions coming! So far Brazil is in first place, followed by Maui, Madagascar, Morocco, West Coast USA. Kind of want to travel a bit and see the country as well as windsurf so juggling all the options!

Hi everyone, just thought I'd update you on what we decided! With Ed's help at Oceansource and Club Ventos, we've decided to go to Jericoacoara. We're flying into Natal and will be kite buggying 1000km along the coast to Jeri. Should be the unofficial world record for longest distance travelled by kite buggy without vehicle support. More info here: www.kitebuggyadventure.com

July/August is the perfect time of year for Mongolia. You'll get to see the Nadaam festival, the weather is quite lovely, a bit cold but still stunning.
