I used the Vortex 3/3 with a 2mm vest under all last winter for windsurf and SUP and found it bloody great...I didn't sail for mega long sessions just an hour and a half at a time and had no worries about the cold.
Having the 2mm next to the skin stopped the feeling of the suit flushing with cold water so felt warm all the time.
But I must add that if I had got into trouble and spent a while in the water I may have wished for a winter suit!
If Spartan summer suits can get me through the winter then I am sure their winter suits are well worth a look at!
