Heard rave reviews about their feel, weight and durability. Not sure about the price though. Vandal are pretty cheap too, but then I've heard the build quality is not all that.by jenksruss - GENERAL DISCUSSION
What shape is the North, new or old school? I had the new school version with the square-ish front bend and found it was way better as it doesn't knacker your arms out as much. However I found the clamp was horrendous for snapping when closing on the beach, the grey section splits where the rope goes around the boom, so after two going I've gone for the new Neil Pryde X6. IMO the NPs are veryby jenksruss - GENERAL DISCUSSION
Ever tried Hotsails, especially the Superfreak? I bought a quiver last year and haven't looked back since. Not only were they a good deal, even for the current seasons models, they still look brand new even after a snapped mast in Tiree, broken UJ at K-Bay where the sail was washed up over the rocks and some good old rinsings at Gwithian. ( No I don't work for Hotsails ;0) Of course it's a perby jenksruss - GENERAL DISCUSSION
Does anyone, clone or otherwise, know the official release dates for the various brands this year? Thinking more boards than sails, as that's what I'm looking to buy, but any would be of interest.by jenksruss - ASK A CLONE
Calm down....just trying to help, don't think there was any need at all for that reply. I've just tested: Quattro KT and LS 80ish and 90 ish range RRD WC 92 Fanatic Twin 90 something Moo custom 98 ish RRD FSW 96 ....so I know the weights and more importantly the feelings of all those boards. The RRD is not only physically heavier but feels heavier on the wave, and needs alot more powby jenksruss - ASK A CLONE
I've just tried a shape by Jim from Puravida, made by Moo, which is a 98 ish quad and it really rips. I compared it to some large production wave boards and boy can you tell the difference. It was like the others still had the handbrake on as the board was so light and responsive, which I'd put down to the way custom shapers make their boards i.e. not in a mold. Jim is actually starting to shaby jenksruss - ASK A CLONE
Have you felt the weight of the new RRDs?! They're extremely heavy, as I think they've had to beef them up due to warranty issues in the past, so you may find them way too heavy to ride them properly at 78kgs. I also think the DC is too gunny for a one board quiver too. Any thoughts on a custom?by jenksruss - ASK A CLONE
Woodpecker, how about going to a custom shaper, tell him what you're after in a one board quiver, demo some of their custom board to see what you like and don't like and go from there. That's what I'm doing at the moment, but going for a two board quiver instead, and at the current production board prices you'd be silly not to. Maybe something to think about? If it was easy it would be kite surfing. Full of dangerous punters who've had a quick lesson but don't really know what they're doing when it comes to rights of way, water safety, etc. It's also similar to the whole skiing vs snowboarding scenario. Skiing is generally harder to learn but if you stick with it is far more rewarding and versatile than snowboarding IMO as I can do both. Just likeby jenksruss - GENERAL DISCUSSION
'd say it's all about commitment and therefore speed to crack the planning carve gybe. Speed is always your friend in dynamic balance sports such as snow sports, windsurfing, etc. It may not feel like it at the time, but speed into the turn means speed out of it. The best rules I've heard, and which worked for me, from Club Dahab and reading Cribbys tips are: Superman - Gather max speed offby jenksruss - GENERAL DISCUSSION
I totally agree, I was gutted when I heard the news that Adrian had sold Boardseeker. I know he said that it would allow him more time to concentrate on testing but then that brings with it the pressures of brand sponsorship and advertising revenue. Is Windsurf mag in with Mpora too as their reviews seem to match the findings of Boards/Boardseeker? The whole secondhand market debate is balls,by jenksruss - BOARDSEEKER MAGAZINE
Talking to Jim again at the Cornwall event he said that he'd used the board in a really wide range of wind and wave conditions, and we also talked about the real possibility of having just a two board quiver to cover all sailing locations in the uk too. I currently get away with this by using a 82 twinser and 96 FSW but I'd much rather have a larger dedicated wave board and then tailor the otherby jenksruss - ASK A CLONE
After talking to Jim, the Pura Vida owner you saw on the video, in Tiree he explained that a larger board means a wider board, and therefore with 4 fins you always have at least 2 gripping and driving for you in a tight turn. Which makes sense really. His board is indeed built by, or with, Moo but I think he's planning to do all the work himself once his workshop is ready, as he shapes surfboardsby jenksruss - ASK A CLONE
I agree with J that SUPs are a perfect compliment to windsurfing. Having just returned from Tiree I saw a relatively portly chap catching some powerful waves at Ballevullin that I had no chance of catching on a 7'0 as the wind was so off shore that it was holding me back whilst paddling (and the fact I'd been windsurfing at the Maze all day too) He openly admitted he was a rubbish normal surfer bby jenksruss - BOARDSEEKER MAGAZINE
I'd have to check with my mate but I remember him saying around £130 ish. He also double and triple checked with two different people and eventually got them to write it on the booking confirmation. As I said it's only for specific vans on the list for some reason, but worth giving them a ring. Good luck.by jenksruss - GENERAL DISCUSSION
Give Calmac a bell and see if your van is on the special list that allows it to go on as a car. A friend and I are heading up for the BWA comp too in a VW T5 LWB and it's on the list which saved us a fortune. I'm guessing it's to encourage either work vans or windsurfers...who knows?! If it is also get written confirmation, or a note on your booking, just in case. Good luck and fingers crossedby jenksruss - GENERAL DISCUSSION
It's out of your range slightly but I have a '08 Skate in great condition, with board bag, for £375. And to give you an idea I'm 87 kgs and it's absolutely perfect for me, just selling to get a more wave orientated board.by jenksruss - GENERAL DISCUSSION
Just put the Skate on eBay for some free advertising. The advert includes photos and an honest description too. Always open to sensible offers and meeting up somewhere.by jenksruss - GENERAL DISCUSSION
I have a '08 97 Fanatic Skate with Flying Objects board bag for £450 ono My number is 07968 479 818 if you need any details or photos sending via email. Russ.by jenksruss - GENERAL DISCUSSION
Looking for around £450 complete with a Flying Objects board bag. Always open to offers ;0)by jenksruss - GENERAL DISCUSSION
My answer to your question is some what biased as I have an '08 Skate 97 for sale which I learnt to Vulcan on! However I think they're great boards to learn on and not limited to freestyle either, as they're great for blasting and bump and jump conditions too. I call it my gentleman's board as it's so quick to plane and then so smooth when it gets there that it's a joy to use. I'm only sellingby jenksruss - GENERAL DISCUSSION
Cheers Jem, sounds like a simple and sensible idea from RRD. Thanks for the top tips.by jenksruss - GENERAL DISCUSSION
Thanks for the news on the new boards Jem, are the graphics staying the same for the FSWs for 2011? And just a quick personal question, 96 or 101 FSW to complement my 82 Twinfin and 74 HCW? Is one more wave orientated than the other or is it just a question of litres? My sail quiver consists of 4.2, 4.7, 5.3 and 6.3 HSM Superfreaks, I'm 183cm, 83Kgs and competing in the masters BWA events.by jenksruss - GENERAL DISCUSSION

I was looking forward to watching the full Oxbow Waterman Experience video from your link last week, but I can't seem to find it, just the trailer. Any ideas where I can watch it online?by jenksruss - BOARDSEEKER MAGAZINE
Does anyone know when RRD are planning to launch their 2011 kit...before I start ordering a board?!by jenksruss - GENERAL DISCUSSION
Congrats on buying your first board! Now this is a question that will throw up so many different answers that you'll have to trawl through and work an ultimate answer out for yourself. As sizes go I would try to pick sails that are going to be the start of a full quiver. For instance, over the years I've worked out that I like 4.2 - 4.7 - 5.3 and 5.8/6.3 for wave and freestyle use which covby jenksruss - GENERAL DISCUSSION
I wish I was young enough to have people say WOW about my sailing ability...as they obviously do whilst you're out on the water! If you're that good, and I don't recall anyone called Mikey being top of the PWA rankings, then you must be either sponsored or daddy buys you're sails for you... Like a special little rich kid.
